The Malcontent series of tracked fighting vehicles began as a response to the Tennessee Star Guards' requirement for a durable, tracked companion to the AW-50 Malice — and, less officially, as Memphis Motive Systems' answer to the Malice's critics, delivered with the March's characteristic grace. From the moment the wheeled Malice debuted, a chorus of armor traditionalists in the Guards and the March militias insisted that no wheeled vehicle could replace honest tracks, whatever Greene & Harvester's suspension engineers claimed. MMS eventually built them their tracked tank, on the same fifty tons, with the same interchangeable turret systems, sharing the same hydrogen logistics chain — and named it the Malcontent, after its customers. The customers, to their lasting credit, bought it anyway. Several units are reported to have painted the name larger.
