Capabilities
The Battleaxe II was born of the Highlander Plus concept introduced by TriStar MechWorks, both powered by the new Starheart 240 reactor. Utilizing the same internal structure of the Victor so popular in Federated Suns territory, the BattleAxe II loses speed to it's namesake, but has the armor protection the original so dearly lacked.
The BattleAxe 80 is built along a long/short engagement profile - paired Hellstars at distance, and 8 Defiance B3M medium lasers laying down a withering assault at short ranges. Using it's jump jets, pilots have enough heat sinks to maneuver and fire both PPCs, and up close, trigger all it's medium lasers to deadly effect.
The BattleAxe 81 forgoes the jumpjets and adopts the weapons profile of the revered Awesome assault 'mech - a deadly trio of Hellstar PPCs.
A third variant, the -82, has been produced in a limited test lance to trial. The 82 replaces PPC's with LRM-15s, and adds a trio of medium lasers for close in defense. It retains the jump jets of it's namesake, allowing the unit to get into better firing positions more quickly than it's ground speed would otherwise allow.
