Overview
The Krait is an unabashed copy of the Savannah Master — a lineage of unabashed copying being, by 3015, a matter of company pride — improved in the two ways a shipping company would think of first: a flotation hull for over-water operations, and a form factor designed so that a full platoon of Kraits ships in a single configurable container that unfolds into their field base. The pun was noticed at the naming meeting, savored, and approved unanimously: a platoon of Kraits arrives in a crate, and the sales office has never once resisted saying so.
Capabilities
Five tons, 216 kph, one B3M medium laser, and the smallest heart in the family: the StarHeart 25, an industrial fusion generator drafted into military service — which means the Krait, alone among the March's light skimmers, needs no hydrogen chain at all. It goes where its crate goes, runs as long as anyone feeds the crew, and floats over water the Savannah Master could only look at, a talent the Lackland Deepwatch discovered early and has exploited ever since; a Krait skimming the pen lines at low tide is as much a part of the water world's scenery as the pens themselves.
Deployment
The fusion heart makes the Krait the expeditionary pick — crated aboard DropShips as self-contained scout and courier packages — while its siblings own the home game. In sixty years of service the type's defining trait has proven to be exactly what the container promised: the Krait platoon is the unit that is simply already there, unpacked and skimming, before the rest of the landing force has found its boots.
