Overview
The Malcontent series of tracked fighting vehicles began as a response to the Tennessee Star Guards' requirement for a durable, tracked companion to the AW-50 Malice — and, less officially, as Memphis Motive Systems' answer to the Malice's critics, delivered with the March's characteristic grace. From the moment the wheeled Malice debuted, a chorus of armor traditionalists in the Guards and the March militias insisted that no wheeled vehicle could replace honest tracks, whatever Greene & Harvester's suspension engineers claimed. MMS eventually built them their tracked tank, on the same fifty tons, with the same interchangeable turret systems, sharing the same hydrogen logistics chain — and named it the Malcontent, after its customers. The customers, to their lasting credit, bought it anyway. Several units are reported to have painted the name larger.

Capabilities
The Malcontent is the Malice's sure-footed sibling: a tracked hull for the mud, scree, snow, and gradient where even the Malice's celebrated independent suspension concedes the argument. Commonality is the design's whole religion — the modular turret assemblies interchange directly with the Malice's, so a mixed armor company draws from one turret pool, one StarSlab plate inventory, and one Multilink/TrackMaster electronics bin. Unlike the Malice, the Malcontent carries no infantry bay; it is a pure gun tank, and the tonnage goes to its weapons fit and the power amplifiers that feed them. Two GH PowerMaxx fuel-cell fits are offered — the full 250 matching the Malice's pace, or the economical 200 for militia and export orders that trade a stride of speed for a meaningful cut in price. A very Common Heart concession: the program does not resist options; it resists exceptions. The A1 model pairs the standard Sunglow large laser with a Holly SRM-6 and coax machine gun — the family's general-purpose fit. The B1 mounts the Hellstar PPC with a B3M backup, giving the tracked line a reach the fuel-cell Malices never had. The C1 carries the Defiance Killer Type T for close support, in the Rommel-legacy tradition. And the D1 dispenses with the turret entirely to bed a Trolland & Trolland Sniper directly into the hull — the tracked chassis carrying at full armor what the wheeled Malice E1 could only manage by shedding plate, which the Sherwood artillerists have never once let the wheel lobby forget.

Deployment
The Malice/Malcontent pairing forms the core of the TSG's medium armor and the doctrine writes itself: the Malice carries the infantry, the Malcontent guards the Malice, and both drink from the same hydrogen bowser at day's end. Mixed companies are the standard — wheeled speed on the roads and flats, tracked insurance where the map turns honest — with turret pools swapped between hulls at the squadron level as the mission demands: the "budget omnitank" concept matured into a two-hull system. Militia and Dominion-rotation formations favor the 200-engine trim; the Guards buy the 250 and the D1 batteries; and the export ledger describes its customers, as ever, as vetted.

History
The Malcontent entered service in 3020 alongside the Class of 3020's wave, and its early career was a study in vindicated stubbornness on both sides. The track lobby got its proof on Tortuga: the 3030 campaign's worst ground — New Port Royal's shattered fortress belt, the rain-season approaches to Tortuga City — was Malcontent country, and the type's D1 batteries stood in the Ledger Barrage's gun lines beside their towed T&T cousins. The wheel lobby got its proof everywhere else, the Malice covering ground on the Dominion worlds' roads that the tracked hulls ate transmissions trying to match. The Guards, who had paid for both arguments, declared the debate settled in the only way Memphis settles anything: the mixed company became doctrine, the two hulls became one system, and the quartermasters — who had wanted exactly this outcome from the first requisition — allowed themselves a rare public smile. The name has long since lost its sting; on the anniversary of the Tortuga landings, Malcontent crews traditionally toast "to the complainers," and mean it.
