Overview
The Ra is the eldest. Named for the Memphis system's own star — the head of the pantheon, as befits the head of the family — the AT-80 entered service in 2813, seventeen years before the first Mongoose walked, which makes it the true first body of Melissa Starr's memorandum and the oldest design in continuous TriStar production. It was built for the famine decades by a trading company whose worlds were feeding a March the Federated Suns had stopped defending: eighty tons of fire support on the house 240, slow as a verdict and armored like one, planted where the triple system needed the argument settled. Two and a half centuries later it is still in production, still on the same engine, and still doing the same job — the Common Heart program did not adopt the Ra; the Ra is the precedent the program was written around. The mandated 240 gives the eighty-ton hull a 54 kph flank and no apologies: the Ra and the Hathor share an engine and represent the mandate's two extremes, the hotrod and the anvil, and the program office keeps a photograph of them side by side for visitors who believe standardization means uniformity.

Capabilities
The A-model is a missile fortress with a lightning rod: three Holly LRM-15 racks and a Hellstar PPC in the turret, a coaxial machine gun for the close question, and six tons of reloads that make it the heaviest line item in the quartermasters' ammunition ledger — a burden the type repays at fifteen missiles per rack, per volley, from behind two hundred points of plate. The A does not maneuver so much as relocate, and its doctrine is written accordingly: arrive early, dig in, and turn the map's far half into a billing dispute.

Deployment
The Ra anchors the fire battalions of the Guards and the capital-world militias, and the pantheon works as a system around it: the Horus spots — the falcon's ArtiSpot suite feeding the sun god's fires being an arrangement the March's mythologically literate officers refuse to stop mentioning — the Hathor chases what displaces, and the Bast holds the door. In garrison and siege the Ra is the argument; on the Dominion rotation its batteries are the standing reminder of how the rotation's peace was purchased; and in two and a half centuries of export service the type has armed more March-aligned militias than any heavy vehicle in the catalog.

History
The Ra predates the company that now builds it, the program that now claims it, and the Guards who now ride it. Built in 2813 to give the famine alliance a defense its sovereign would not provide, it spent the Succession Wars as the triple system's fixed insurance, the rearmament decades as the Class of 3020's grandfather, and the Tortuga Campaign as the instrument of the most famous invoice in Periphery history. The type's continuity is its character: crews inherit hulls their grandparents served in, the oldest running example — Sunrise, 2813 production, Memphis Militia — still fires an annual salute over the Chickasaw on Founding Day, and the March, which jokes about everything, has settled on exactly one joke about the Ra and worn it smooth: the sun also rises, and it brought a Long Tom.
